Description

The Robert Axle Project Quick Release Hitch Adapter is for bikes with 5mm quick release rear axles. Our hitch adapter for towing kid trailers and single-arm bike trailers is high quality and precisely machined. This includes all the two-wheeled child, pet and cargo trailers such as: Thule, Chariot, Burley, Instep, Carry Freedom, and many more.

Our hitch adapter is made of stainless steel and is incredibly durable.  It’s built to handle towing a fully loaded bike trailer. The Robert Axle Project Quick Release Hitch Adapter helps trailer hitches fit more bikes. It easily clears hooded dropouts and other interfering dropouts. It is easy to install. Simply flip the quick release, replace the QR nut, and attach the hitch that came with your trailer.

Our hitch adapter uses a 5 mm hex to attach your hitch and precious cargo more securely than with other knurled adapters. When installing the hitch, the 5 mm hex isolates and protects dropouts from marring and over-tightening of the quick release.

If your bike has a 12mm thru axle we make thru axle adapters that you can find by using our Axle Finder here.

At Robert Axle Project we believe in enhancing the role of bikes in your life’s adventures. Expanding our immensely thorough catalog of thru axles for trailers, racks, trainers, and more, helps us do that.

Easy installation and works great on Trek E-Bike pulling my son in his Burley Bee. Thanks again!

I originally tried to make one of the major kid trailer manufactures’ hitch adapter work, and I did, but it was a pain. When tightening the other adapter down, it was very difficult/impossible to not have it rotate out of position during the final tightening.
The Robert Axle Project’s hitch adapter solves this problem by including a hex slot to be able to brace the adapter as a counter force for the final tightening preventing the hitch from rotating out of position. Thoughtful design feature that makes this adapter superior.

Just what I needed to get my trailer safely on my bike.

  4. Don (verified owner)

Works great for my fat bike QR pulling a chariot. Shipping was simple.

I have hooded dropouts on my bike which require the use of a quick release adapter to mount my kid trailer.

I had originally purchased and used the Burley adapter but was frustrated with its design. In order for you to torque the nut, you have to finger grip the knurled adapter body. Unless you have incredible grip strength, it was very difficult for me to keep the adapter from rotating while torquing the nut.

The Robert Axle Project adapter solves this problem by allowing you to use a hex wrench to hold the adapter body in place. This makes it far easier to properly torque the nut. Their version also includes a washer and uses a nylon lock nut which should resist loosening and is therefore safer.

Exactly what I needed to attach a Thule Chariot to my Marin Terra Linda. The Thule adapter for hooded dropouts did not fit, and trying to figure out how to attach the trailer safely was becoming quite frustrating. The Robert Axle Project’s customer service person was quick and helpful in solving my problem and directing me to the right product. I was very impressed and pleased.

Works perfect for us. Fits the Thule Chariot cougar 2 coupler. We have two Raleigh bikes, class 1 electric, non electric, both with five mm quick release skewers. The threaded attachment fits perfectly. Just flip the skewer hook up and go!

  9. Jacob Newkirk (verified owner)

Works perfect for our needs! The part shipped very fast and was easy to install. Use it to attach the kid trailer coupler to a Trek Marlin. Trailer hookup is now fast and simple and we are loving it. I ended up ordering a 2nd one for my wife’s bike.

    STOP looking anywhere else!!!

Order from Robert Axle Company without hesitation.

After making the mistake of trying a different brand, I am now a “Happy Convert”. The first adapter I tried was cast from a much weaker material, did not come with a proper lock-washer/nylon locking nut, and was NOT robust enough to even allow the use of a simple split washer to lock the adapter on. The threads just flaked apart. Not cross threaded as they tried to claim, just gave up as soon as a little tension was applied. Thankfully I had pictures to send them. To their credit, they did send the refund immediately upon my sending them pictures.
