Specification
A thru-axle adapter for BOB Trailers! These Robert Axles for BOB Trailers are specifically engineered to attach your BOB Trailer to your 12 mm thru-axle equipped bike.
- This axle is compatible with BOB Trailers.
- The diameter of this axle is 12 mm and the true length of the axle shaft is 184 mm. Spacers included for a 169, 175, or 184 mm fitment. Please note: Thru-axle lengths do not equal hub standards. An axle has to be longer than the hub to fit in the frame. A 12×148 hub does not equal a 148 mm long axle. We suggest a +/- 2mm axle length fit is perfect for all our axles.
- This axle has a 1.0 mm thread pitch.
- The axle shaft and axle end are precision CNC machined.
- The axle shaft is 7075 aluminum and hard black anodized for rugged durability.
- The axle ends are stainless steel, which allow for mounting of the BOB Trailer bobbins.
- No special tools required. Design allows for installation or wheel removal using your standard 5mm hex wrench.
- Please note: This axle does not come with the BOB Trailer bobbins. Those are available separately, here. Or you can reuse your bobbins from the stock BOB Trailer Quick Release that came with your trailer.
- Designed, built and quality tested in the USA. Proven around the world.

My trailer has been hanging in the shed for over a year, since I replaced my old mtb (26″ with QR axle) with a nice new one. Of course, the new bike has a through-axle, so no more trailer 🙂
I had looked at trying to make/modify the axle so that the trailer could be used again, but it became very difficult. And then I found The Robert Axle Project (don’t you love that name!!). I wasn’t sure that it would work on my bike (because the head of the axle is inset inside the frame, and the axle threads into the derailleur holder which is held in by another bolt). The team at the RAP helped me out, and gave advice on how that could be overcome. The axle was super easy to fit, and after giving the trailer arms a bit of a resize, I can carry lots of stuff again. Great!!
And then the world gets hammered by COVID-19, and we’re not able to go and use it… I guess I’ll have to do some winter trips instead of autumn…

The Axle fits perfect and the trailer can be attached easily and secure.
During the order, some questions have to be answered, in order to make sure you get the rigth axle.
I am really happy, that I found that opportunity to attach the BOB trailer.
Unfortunately, it is not mentioned, that you need additionally the quick release “bobbins”, to attach the trailer to the axle.
As I am new to the wole bike and trailer topic, that wasn’t obvious to me.
Adding a corresponding question to the ordering process or a small description would have saved me the extra shipping costs.Except for that Besides that, the product is great, those guys put a lot of thought into design and how to get online costumers the right axle.

Hello Konrad,
Thank you for your review and feedback. Regarding the Bobbins for our thru axles. We do not include those with the axles as they are easy to remove from the old BOB Quick-Release that came with your trailer. We feel that it would be better to not have to charge you if you can just reuse them. We do “Specifications” tab in our product description. For those that would like additional Bobbins, we do offer them separately. We’re looking forward to being an important part of your BOB adventures, for years to come. Cheers, Chris

I bought a single fat wheel trailer a while ago, and I had a problem with the Thru-Axle that came with it, as it was short.
I couldn’t find a longer one, so I used a threaded rod to use my trailer.
I bought this Thru-Axle for Bob trailer and the Hardware Kit, which is I have been using now for just about two days.
It looks nicer, feels better, and is more secure so that I can go for multiple days MTB camping off-road trip.

I converted my bob from 26 to 29r and had to run a thru-axle. The Robert Axle Project was the one name that kept coming up for the best part for the job. Their website was quick and easy answering all my questions and making sure I had the right Part. My bob works like a dream.
