- To secure your Lightning Bolt-On Axles, you’ll need one 6mm Hexlox for each axle. These include the magnetic insert for our axles which, since they are aluminum are not magnetic.
- Add at least one key to install and remove your Hexlox system. You will receive a key which matches the Hexlox you order. Order multiple keys if you want a spare.
- For other all other components, check your bike for what you want to secure. Options include Hexlox’s that fit in 4mm, 5mm and 6mm bolts, so check your bike and purchase what you need!

The Hexlox locks are a good solution to theft-proofing components. Compared to things like Pitlock skewers and nuts, they are more compact and less expensive. There are a few caveats: you either need magnetic bolts or to choose the Hexlox that are designed to accommodate non-magnetic ones, and the bolts should be either shaped or located so that they cannot be turned with something like a Vise-grip. Having both the locks and the key small enough to easily carry and weighing very little is a big plus.

Awesome way to provide extra theft protection for one’s thru axle wheels without weighing down your bike. I weighed two hexlox (one magnetic gizmo per wheel) AND the key on my kitchen scale and the reported weight was 4g for all of those parts combined. That’s incredibly lightweight for something that adds extra security to your bike.
Using them is easy, too. The biggest challenge I can see is not losing one of the tiny magnetic inserts when removing them from the bike (they are small!). But you could always order a replacement if you lost one along the roadside.
Ordering was easy. I looked up the axle sizes for my bike and placed an order that included two hexlox and keys. The axles came already fitted with the magnetic insert required to work with the hexlox. They fit perfectly in the frame, too.

They look much cleaner than the original axles on my bike, which had a wonky cross between a speed lever and a quick release and weighed more than double, too.

Finally a simple and sleek solution to secure my expensive wheels on my bike and my bike on my bike rack. I have a Quickr Stuff bike rack which locks the bike through its wheels. I bought this key for 5 and 6 mm Hexlox inserts for both my regular axles and the trainer axle that comes with a 5 mm screw. I requested them to be keyed alike and they are. I can buy any subsequent Hexlox product and have it keyed the same way. I absolutely love the simplicity, look and functionality of Hexlox. It takes little practice to remove the lock but it’s really easy. They key is very small and doesn’t add bulk to your key set. The whole thing is actually pretty ingenious. On top of it very affordable. I totally recommend it.
